Just Transition in Action: The Power of Storytelling
Blue Zone, Thematic Zone 1 Entertainment + Culture Pavilion (Listed under Climate Generation B7 90 in the UNFCCC Venue Map)
This event will explore the power of storytellers in garnering support for Just Transitions and the meaningful role philanthropy can play in fostering impactful change.
As the call for urgent climate action reverberates worldwide, the imperative to move beyond fossil fuels is clear. Yet, the transition to a sustainable future must not only encompass technological and policy changes but also prioritise justice, equity, and community well-being. It is not just about replacing power sources, but about recalibrating the fabric of our economies and societies. This is where the concept of a “Just Transition” gains its resonance—a worker-led vision that intertwines environmental transformation with social equity, safeguarding the rights and livelihoods of communities that have borne the brunt of environmental and industrial shifts. The stories we tell—of individuals, communities, and the changes and solutions they are witnessing —are the threads that bind these realities, making them tangible and comprehensible to forge a new trajectory toward a just and climate-resilient future for all.
The Climate Justice-Just Transition and Doc Society invite you to join us as we discuss and explore the impactful role of storytelling in advancing community-led Just Transitions around the globe. Kicking off with a screening of the documentary “Offshore”, we will hear from creatives, activists and philanthropy on the power of storytelling, and what more is needed, to accelerate the transition while leaving no one behind.
